JOHANNESBURG (Zimbabwe Investor) – South Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC) called on the South Africa and the world to pray for former President Nelson Mandela who has been readmitted to hospital with a recurring lung infection.
“ANC calls on all South Africans and the world to keep Mandela in their prayers,” said party spokesman Jackson Mthembu.
“During these trying times, we wish President Mandela well and for his family to be strong.”
Presidential spokesman Mac Maharaj said Mr Mandela was conscious and receiving treatment.
“We need to be clear that the doctors are attending to Madiba on a continuous basis,” said Maharaj.
Mr Mandela, 94, returned to hospital just before midnight according to a statement from the South African Presidency. The first post-independence South African president spent 18 days in hospital in December being treated for a lung infection and gallstones.
